1-Who are we looking for?

ALC Meknes employs both native speakers of English from abroad as well as Moroccan teachers. Native speaker applicants from abroad must have a Bachelor's or preferably Master's degree from an accredited university.
In addition, the ideal candidate should have:

-Experience in the teaching of English as a Foreign or Second Language
-A certificate in TEFL or TESL
-A communicative level of French and/or Arabic*
-Experience living abroad and the ability to adapt to a culture such as Morocco's.

By Moroccan labour law, work permits to teach at the ALC cannot be offered to non-Moroccans 60 years of age or over or to nationals from countries whose first language is not English.

**Although English is taught through English in the classroom, some knowledge of French or Arabic can be useful in understanding problems of L1/L2 interference, as well as in day-to-day life.

2-Period of Employment

ALC Meknes offers contracts running from October until the end of June. These contracts generally require of teachers a commitment of 20 to 25 hours per week during the main terms. Work is mainly English teaching in the classroom, but may include such things as film presentations, work on the student paper, work with the student drama group, or other extra-curricular activities. Most teaching takes place in the evenings, but usually includes Saturday afternoons as well. Teachers new to Morocco are asked to arrive in the country by around September 20th for a period of orientation and training.

3-Salary and Benefits

The contracts offered by the ALC Meknes usually allow visiting teachers to live comfortably during their stay in Morocco, and in some cases to save money as well. Salaries are in Moroccan dirhams.
In addition to the basic salary, all teachers are offered medical insurance which covers 80% of most medical and certain dental expenses. The ALC Meknes reimburses contract teachers recruited from abroad the equivalent of 10,000 dirhams travel stipend to and from Morocco.
