The Academic Program

At the ALC, students learn to use English in a real context, using communicative teaching methods. This way, students can practice the language from the first lesson.

Students are evaluated at the end of each course and must pass an exam to take the next level. Students are evaluated both on their class participation and on a written exam.

The program has four age groups:
-Children (7 to 9 years old)
-Juniors (10 to 12 years old)
-Seniors (12 to 14 years old)
-Adults (15 and older)

The age groups permit the ALC to guarantee students – as much as possible – to be with classmates of their own age and to enable teachers to use appropriate methods with each group.

Children

There are three levels in the "Children" cycle: Child 1, Child 2, and Child 3. Each of these levels lasts three sessions. The Center also has a "Young Learners' Center" which provides a place for art, music, games and films to reinforce what children learn in class.

Children's classes meet for 2 hours 15 minutes once per week.

Juniors and Seniors

There are 12 levels in the Juniors and Seniors age groups. Children who reach the age of 9 take a placement test to join the Juniors classes. In the same way, Seniors who reach the age of 15, take a placement test to join Adult classes.

Juniors and Seniors classes meet for 2 hours 15 minutes once per week.

Adults

The Adult program includes 18 levels broken down into three cycles: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. There is also a Proficiency level for students who have completed Advanced 6 and a TOEFL preparation course for students wishing to take the TOEFL exam.

Each of the 18 levels meets for 30 hours each ten-week term. Students can choose between a course meeting for 1 1/2 hours twice per week or one that meets for 3 hours once per week.

The same courses are offered during the Intensive Sessions in June, July, and September/Ramadan. The Intensive courses meet for 3 hours per day, five days per week for two weeks.
